Conventional four- and six-year undergraduate graduation rates are not useful measures of Meharry's principal programs. In the 2024-25 IPEDS enrollment figures, the college reported no first-time, degree-seeking undergraduates - the entering group on which many familiar college graduation-rate comparisons are based.
MD, DDS, and graduate degrees also have different expected timelines. Applicants evaluating completion should look for outcomes for the specific program and entering cohort, such as time to degree, board-examination results, or residency placement where applicable. Those measures answer different questions and should not be presented as a single institution-wide graduation rate.
An institution-wide salary figure would be a poor guide to Meharry's varied degrees. A new physician entering residency, a dentist beginning practice, and a biomedical researcher pursuing further training can have very different earnings trajectories.
When comparing program-level earnings, students should check whether a figure describes a median or an average, how long after completion it was measured, and which graduates were included. Salary data also do not account fully for educational debt, residency training, specialty, location, or hours worked. Earnings are one consideration alongside the cost and length of the intended path.
