Students in the EVMS medical district should use the safety and emergency procedures designated for their building and clinical site. EVMS's integration with ODU makes it especially important to distinguish university communications and reporting channels from the procedures used at an affiliated hospital.
ODU publishes campus safety information and an annual security report under the federal Clery Act. Students can consult that report for the reporting geography, covered years, crime categories and described safety policies; reported incidents are not a complete measure of every personal risk. The university also provides channels for emergency notifications and for reporting sexual misconduct and seeking support. Before starting a placement, students should confirm its emergency contact, after-hours access rules and incident-reporting procedure rather than assume that arrangements are identical across sites.
