The cost of attending ACOM includes more than DO tuition. A realistic academic-year budget also accounts for required fees, housing, food, books or digital resources, equipment, transportation, health coverage, and expenses associated with clinical training.
Applicants should use ACOM's cost of attendance for their specific academic year and class level when comparing schools. Tuition and living-expense allowances can change, and a clinical-year budget may differ from a classroom-year budget because of travel or rotation-site housing. Do not add housing and food twice if they are already included in a published total cost-of-attendance estimate.
The published budget is not necessarily the amount a student will ultimately pay from personal funds: scholarships, military benefits, and loans affect how costs are financed, while borrowing creates a repayment obligation. Eligible students generally begin the federal-aid process with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). ACOM's financial aid office can explain its current scholarship process, federal loan eligibility, and documentation requirements. Graduate students should not assume that undergraduate grant programs apply to a DO degree.
Medical school is a substantial time commitment, particularly during clinical rotations, so applicants should not build a financing plan around an assumed amount of part-time earnings. A paid job, a clinical learning experience, and a financial aid award serve different purposes.
Federal Work-Study, where offered to an eligible student, is need-based aid earned through qualifying employment rather than a grant paid automatically. Ordinary student jobs have separate hiring and scheduling rules. ACOM's financial aid office can clarify whether Work-Study appears in a student's aid offer, while individual hiring offices can explain available positions and expected hours. Students should also check whether outside employment conflicts with their academic or clinical responsibilities.
