Commencement is WGU's most visible recurring university event. It gives graduates and their supporters an opportunity to celebrate completion in person, even though the degree work itself usually took place remotely. WGU also holds online events and activities that can connect students with university staff or peers.
WGU does not have the ordinary calendar of campus homecoming games, residence-hall traditions, or student festivals associated with a residential college. Commencement dates, locations, participation rules, and any virtual alternatives can change, so graduating students should use the arrangements issued for their particular ceremony rather than assume that one is held in Salt Lake City.
WGU does not provide undergraduate residence halls or a university meal plan. Students arrange their own housing, food, and day-to-day transportation wherever they live while enrolled.
This is also why reported housing and dining amounts in college-cost datasets require care: they can represent estimated living expenses used in financial-aid calculations, not rooms or meals sold by WGU. A student attending from home may have very different expenses from someone renting independently. Applicants with required clinical or teaching placements should separately consider whether travel or temporary accommodation near a placement will add to their costs.
