Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Institutional accreditation evaluates the college as a whole; it does not mean that every individual program holds a separate professional accreditation.
Accreditation matters when students seek federal financial aid or ask another college to consider transfer credits. It does not guarantee that credits will transfer: the receiving institution decides how they apply. Students entering a licensed profession, particularly teaching, should also verify the relevant program requirements and state licensing rules before enrolling.
NHSC reports an open-admission policy for undergraduate applicants. In practical terms, the central questions are whether an applicant meets the college's entry requirements and whether a chosen program has additional conditions - not whether the applicant meets a published competitive acceptance-rate threshold.
Degree-seeking applicants should be prepared to submit an application and documentation of high school completion or an equivalent credential such as a GED. Prior college students should also arrange for their academic records to be sent for review. Open admission should not be confused with automatic placement into every course: assessment, prerequisites, or program-specific steps may still affect the first term's schedule.
The college reports accepting dual-credit coursework. Applicants who earned college credit while in high school should request an official record from the college that awarded it. Before submitting an application, students seeking a particular credential should check that program's current entry steps and start dates with admissions.
Applicants should check NHSC's current application instructions for any charge due when they submit an application. Tuition and mandatory student fees are separate charges and should not be mistaken for an application fee.
If an application charge appears in the current process, students who cannot afford it should ask admissions whether a waiver is available before paying or submitting the form. They should also confirm whether the same procedure applies to first-time, transfer, and returning applicants.
Students should not assume that enrolling at NHSC also enrolls them in an Army, Air Force, or Navy ROTC unit. Anyone interested in an officer-commissioning route needs to establish whether a host college will permit cross-enrollment and whether its training schedule is workable from New Town.
ROTC participation, scholarships, and eventual service obligations are governed by the relevant military branch and host program. A prospective cadet should obtain confirmation from that program before building an NHSC course plan around ROTC participation.
Students with previous college coursework can seek admission to NHSC, but admission and acceptance of individual transfer credits are different decisions. The college reported 11 transfer-in, degree- or certificate-seeking undergraduates in its 2024-25 student figures.
Transfer applicants should request official transcripts from every college attended and ask NHSC for a program-specific credit evaluation. The useful question is not only how many credits transfer, but whether they satisfy general education, major, and graduation requirements. Students planning to transfer out of NHSC should likewise obtain a written evaluation from the intended receiving college; NHSC's accreditation does not by itself establish course equivalencies.
Students considering study abroad should first determine whether an overseas course or program can fit an NHSC degree plan. They should not assume that a program offered by another college or an outside provider will automatically earn applicable NHSC credit.
Before paying a deposit, a student should seek written academic approval covering course equivalencies, required credits, and the term abroad. The financial aid office should separately confirm whether the proposed arrangement qualifies for aid. These checks matter especially at a small college, where a required course at home may be offered on a limited schedule.
