Data Sources Underpinning the 3rd Edition of Research.com Best Universities in Egypt Ranking
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Egypt Ranking is the result of rigorous data collection and analysis, utilizing OpenAlex and CrossRef as its primary bibliometric data providers, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. All citation-based metrics that informed the ranking were generated from bibliometric data gathered on 2024-11-27.
Each university's position in the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-index scores (Discipline H-indexes) of all ranked scholars associated with that institution. The D-index focuses exclusively on publications and citations within a specific discipline, ensuring precise and discipline-relevant evaluation of academic contributions. Importantly, academics from all key research areas were assessed to create a well-rounded institutional ranking.
Scope of Research Considered
A comprehensive evaluation was undertaken, examining 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from various bibliometric databases. The analysis spanned all major scientific disciplines, ensuring thorough coverage of the Egyptian research landscape. To maintain high standards, only scholars with a minimum D-index of 20 were included in the ranking. Additionally, the assessment incorporated qualitative indicators, considering each scientist’s awards and significant achievements within their field of research as influencing factors.
Verification and Validation of Data
The creators of the ranking recognize the inherent limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data for evaluating scholarly output. In response, all profiled scientists underwent meticulous manual verification, involving cross-validation of their publication histories across numerous trusted sources. While the count of papers published in high-impact journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's rank in Research.com’s system, it remains an important secondary signal of scholarly contribution and impact in their respective domains.
Ranking positions are established based on each researcher’s H-index, as reported by OpenAlex and CrossRef—the foremost bibliometric databases trusted by the global research community. For a comprehensive overview of the assessment processes and criteria, please refer to our methodology page.
