Debt Relief Rankings
Best Over-Indebtedness Support Services in France for 2026
We compared eight French support networks based on independence, debt-file assistance, geographic coverage, documented impact, creditor and housing support, and digital accessibility.
How France differs
Consumers submit an over-indebtedness application to the Banque de France commission without paying a commercial debt-settlement company. Support networks can help stabilise the budget, gather documents, complete the file, address housing or creditor problems, and access social rights.

Research.com top choice
Fédération CRÉSUS
Best overall balance of specialist expertise, free support, documented impact, creditor assistance, and application preparation.
The official Banque de France route
The Banque de France provides the application form, receives the file, and supports the departmental over-indebtedness commissions. Filing is free. Depending on the household’s circumstances, the process may result in a repayment plan, imposed measures, partial debt cancellation, or personal recovery with debt cancellation.
Do not pay a company merely to submit the official form
A PCB, CCAS, social worker, CRÉSUS association, or other qualified nonprofit service can help complete the application. The Banque de France also provides information through its offices, website, and the 34 14 telephone service.

How we ranked French support networks
Consumer-review volume is not used as a separate category because nonprofit networks operate through local branches and assist vulnerable households in confidential settings.
Public safeguards and independence
Free or nonprofit status, state PCB label where relevant, neutrality, confidentiality, trained staff, public accountability, complaints routes, and no paid debt-cancellation promises.
Debt assessment and filing support
Budget diagnosis, creditor contact, Banque de France file preparation, document checks, procedure explanation, follow-up after filing, and referral to qualified legal or social assistance.
Geographic accessibility
Departmental coverage, local offices, rural access, telephone and online support, mobile services, eligibility limits, and ability to find a nearby adviser.
Documented impact and service evidence
Households supported, appointment volume, completed interventions, published impact reporting, outcome measurement, and clearly defined service scale.
Rights, creditor, and emergency support
Bank disputes, rent and energy arrears, eviction prevention, social benefits, creditor negotiation, emergency aid, microcredit, and access to legal information.
Digital accessibility and information
Online office finder, email or online appointments, downloadable guides, budget tools, accessible explanations, current contact information, and support for digitally excluded users.
Minimum eligibility requirements
A listed network must provide free or clearly nonprofit assistance, explain its role honestly, protect personal information, avoid guaranteed debt-cancellation claims, and offer meaningful help with budgeting, creditors, rights, housing, or the Banque de France application process.
