Wesley Theological Seminary has institutional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It also holds theological-school accreditation through the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. These are distinct forms of review: Middle States evaluates the institution, while ATS accreditation addresses theological education and its approved degrees.
Accreditation is relevant to eligibility for federal student aid and can matter when seeking to transfer graduate credit. It does not require another school to accept a particular course, nor does it confer a professional or denominational license. Applicants pursuing ordination should check both the accreditor's current institutional listing and their denomination's educational rules for the degree they intend to earn.
Admission to Wesley is graduate admission, so a high school record, SAT score, or ACT score is not the central measure used for a typical degree application. Master's applicants generally need a bachelor's degree, an application, academic transcripts, and materials that explain their academic or ministry goals. Requirements can differ by degree.
Applicants should review the current checklist for their chosen program before requesting references or writing a statement: recommendations, writing prompts, interviews, and English-language proficiency documentation may apply to particular applicants. Doctor of Ministry admission may also call for prior theological study and ministry experience. Published deadlines and entry terms should be checked for the specific degree rather than inferred from undergraduate admissions calendars.
Applicants should check the fee displayed in Wesley's current application for their specific degree before submitting it. An application processing charge, if assessed, is separate from tuition, an enrollment deposit, and other costs of attendance.
Anyone for whom a fee would be a barrier should ask the admissions office about waiver eligibility and the request process before paying or submitting the application. Applicants should not assume that a waiver granted for one program, application route, or term will apply to another.
Wesley Theological Seminary is not an undergraduate ROTC host campus, and applicants should not treat enrollment there as an established route into Army, Air Force, or Navy ROTC. ROTC normally combines undergraduate study with military training and an eventual service commitment.
A student interested in military chaplaincy should instead distinguish seminary education from a commissioning program. Chaplain-candidate pathways and eventual appointment have service-specific, ecclesiastical-endorsement, education, and eligibility rules. A Wesley degree by itself does not provide a commission or guarantee qualification for military chaplaincy.
For Wesley applicants, "transfer" ordinarily means asking whether graduate theological courses completed elsewhere can count toward a Wesley degree. It is not the same process as transferring into a bachelor's program; Wesley reported no incoming degree-seeking undergraduate transfers in the IPEDS 2024-25 figures.
Applicants seeking graduate transfer credit should provide official transcripts and be ready to supply course descriptions or syllabi. The relevant degree program must assess whether prior work is graduate-level, sufficiently comparable, and consistent with its credit limits and residency requirements. Admission to Wesley does not itself establish how many credits will transfer. An applicant with substantial previous coursework should seek a written, program-specific credit evaluation before making enrollment plans.
International and cross-cultural learning at a theological seminary is more likely to involve a short-term immersion or an approved educational experience than a conventional undergraduate semester abroad. Wesley applicants should examine the current offerings and the requirements of their degree before budgeting for international travel.
For any proposed trip or outside course, the questions are whether it carries Wesley credit, who supervises it, what preparation or reflection is required, and which travel expenses are excluded from tuition. Financial-aid eligibility and credit approval should be established in advance; participation in a partner's program does not automatically make it part of a Wesley degree.
