Purdue University Global is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Institutional accreditation applies to the university as a whole. It is relevant to federal student-aid eligibility and may be considered by employers and other colleges, although another school decides for itself whether and how transferred credits will apply.
Separate professional accreditation matters for some programs. Purdue Global identifies Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accreditation for specified nursing degree programs; applicants should confirm that their exact credential is covered. Its law education requires particular scrutiny: accreditation connected to California legal education is not the same as approval by the American Bar Association, and permission to seek bar admission varies by jurisdiction.
Accreditation alone does not establish that a graduate will qualify for a professional license. Nursing, counseling, teaching, law and other regulated fields can impose state-specific coursework, placement, examination or residency requirements. Applicants should compare the exact program and their intended state's rules before enrolling.
Purdue Global generally uses an open-admission approach for undergraduate study, but applicants must still establish eligibility for their chosen program. Degree-seeking entrants ordinarily need a high school diploma or recognized equivalent, such as a GED, and must complete the university's application and enrollment steps.
Applicants should be prepared to provide official records of prior education. Published general admission information does not make an SAT or ACT score the central requirement for ordinary undergraduate entry. A program may nevertheless set additional academic, technical or professional conditions. Graduate applicants typically need an appropriate prior degree, while nursing and other regulated programs may require a license, clinical eligibility or other documentation.
Online enrollment does not eliminate location-based restrictions. State authorization, professional licensing requirements and placement availability can affect whether an applicant may enter a particular program. Before choosing a start date, applicants should confirm their program's current document requirements and deadlines with Purdue Global admissions.
Purdue Global advertises no application fee for its standard application. That means an applicant should distinguish the cost of submitting an application from later tuition, course materials and any program-specific expenses.
Because an application fee is not ordinarily charged, a standard application-fee waiver is not generally the relevant financial-aid question. Applicants entering a specialized program should check its current admissions instructions for any distinct charges or required third-party costs. A tuition discount, military benefit or introductory-study offer is not the same thing as an application-fee waiver.
Prospective Purdue Global students should not assume that the university operates an ROTC unit for its online enrollment. ROTC programs associated with Purdue University's West Lafayette campus belong to that campus's participation arrangements, not automatically to Purdue Global.
An applicant seeking an Army, Air Force or Navy commission should ask the relevant ROTC host unit whether a Purdue Global student can participate and whether the intended degree and enrollment format meet that branch's requirements. ROTC scholarships have separate selection rules, and participation can lead to a military service obligation. Military education benefits offered to service members and veterans are separate from ROTC enrollment.
Purdue Global accepts eligible transfer credit from other accredited colleges, but admission and credit acceptance are separate decisions. An admitted student may find that some previous courses transfer as electives rather than satisfy requirements in the intended major.
Transfer applicants should submit official transcripts from every previous college and request a program-specific credit evaluation. Purdue Global also describes pathways for assessing some prior learning, including professional training and other documented experience. The amount awarded depends on the credential, evidence, course equivalencies and program rules; professional programs may impose tighter limits.
For a useful comparison, ask for a written degree plan showing which credits meet general education, major and elective requirements, how many Purdue Global credits remain, and whether any credits expire or require a minimum grade. Confirm any institutional-credit requirement and the applicable tuition format before estimating the time or cost saved. The university's large transfer-in population makes this evaluation particularly consequential.
Purdue Global's predominantly online model is not organized around the semester-long campus study-abroad experience offered by many residential universities. Students interested in international study should not assume that travel through another Purdue institution or an outside provider will count toward a Purdue Global degree.
Before paying for an exchange, short-term course or international internship, a student needs written approval identifying the course's transfer equivalency and its place in the degree plan. Financial-aid treatment also depends on the arrangement and a student's eligibility. Applicants whose main goal is a structured overseas term should ask their program advisor what approved options apply to their specific credential.
