Husson University began in 1898 as the Bangor Business School, founded by Dr. Dwight L. Husson. Initially focused on practical business education, the institution expanded its curriculum and facilities over the decades to meet changing educational demands. In 1933, the school became Husson College, reflecting its growing academic offerings beyond business courses.
By the late 20th century, the college broadened its programs to include liberal arts and professional studies, adapting to the needs of a diverse student body. In 2008, it achieved university status due to this substantial expansion in degree programs and research activities, officially becoming Husson University.
Throughout its history, Husson University has aimed to combine rigorous academic standards with practical skills, preparing students for evolving careers. Its gradual transformation from a specialized business school into a comprehensive university illustrates a consistent commitment to meeting student and community needs. This evolution underscores an emphasis on adaptable education that supports both immediate career goals and long-term professional development.
Husson University offers a diverse range of academic disciplines through its various faculties and departments, designed to meet the needs of prospective students with different interests and career aspirations. The university is organized into colleges and schools that focus on distinct fields, providing specialized instruction and practical experience.
The College of Business provides programs geared toward developing skills in management, marketing, finance, and accounting, among other business-related areas. Students benefit from coursework that integrates theory with real-world applications.
The College of Health and Education encompasses departments dedicated to nursing, health sciences, and education. These departments focus on preparing students for professional roles in healthcare and teaching, emphasizing both the science and interpersonal aspects of these fields.
Within the College of Science and Humanities, students can pursue studies in liberal arts, natural sciences, and social sciences. This college aims to foster critical thinking and a broad understanding of human culture and the natural world.
The College of Pharmacy is another key component, offering specialized training for students intending to enter pharmaceutical professions. This program emphasizes both scientific knowledge and clinical practice.
In addition to these core colleges, Husson University offers education in design and communication fields through its School of Design and Communication, which focuses on creative disciplines such as graphic design and strategic communication.
