CUSM's published graduate-level cost figures require careful interpretation because a general graduate tuition figure is not necessarily the price of the MD program. For 2024-25, reported full-time graduate tuition was $39,000, with $2,300 in required fees, for both in-state and out-of-state students.
Those figures total $41,300 before living and other expenses, but applicants should not treat that sum as a verified MD cost of attendance. Medical-school tuition may follow a different schedule. A program-specific budget should separately account for tuition, mandatory fees, books and equipment, housing, food, transportation, health insurance, and any required clinical-training expenses without counting an expense twice.
The amount a student ultimately pays can differ from the published budget after scholarships or other assistance; loans help cover costs but must generally be repaid. For a multi-year MD program, applicants should compare annual budgets across the entire expected enrollment period and consider how borrowing may accumulate.
Student employment at CUSM should be considered separately from clinical training and financial aid. A required clinical experience is part of the curriculum, not automatically a paid job; receiving a financial aid award also does not automatically create a work position.
Federal Work-Study, where included in an eligible student's aid package and offered by an institution, pays wages for qualifying work rather than reducing tuition upfront. Applicants who need earnings during school should ask CUSM's financial aid office whether their program offers Work-Study, how positions are found, and whether the expected hours are compatible with classes and clinical rotations. Research or other part-time positions may have different hiring and pay arrangements.
