Homecoming and Mountain Heritage Day are two documented recurring occasions that connect Western Carolina University students with alumni and the surrounding region.
Homecoming typically brings together athletic events and campus activities for current students and returning alumni. Mountain Heritage Day focuses on the music, crafts and cultural traditions of the southern Appalachian region and involves the wider community as well as the university. WCU's Pride of the Mountains marching band is another recognizable part of campus performances and game-day events. Dates, venues and schedules can change from year to year, so attendance plans should be based on the current event calendar.
Western Carolina University offers university-operated undergraduate housing, including coeducational residence options, and campus dining plans. Housing availability does not mean every applicant is guaranteed a preferred building or room type.
Students should review the current residence-life application, eligibility rules and any first-year residency requirement or exception that applies to them. Residence halls have high-speed internet access. Depending on eligibility and availability, students may compare traditional residence-hall arrangements with more independent campus options; off-campus housing requires a separate search and its own budget for rent, utilities and transportation.
Campus dining includes meal-plan arrangements and places to eat beyond a single dining hall. Plan requirements and the value of a particular plan depend on where a student lives and how often they expect to eat on campus. The housing application and meal-plan selection are separate decisions from admission to WCU.
