The familiar four-year and six-year undergraduate graduation rates are not appropriate measures of NPS outcomes. NPS is a graduate institution, and its students enter programs with different degree requirements, schedules, and service obligations.
A more useful completion question is how long the specific master's, doctoral, or certificate program normally takes for a student in the applicant's attendance category. Resident and distance-learning schedules can differ, and a sponsoring service may set its own timetable. Applicants evaluating completion should seek program-level information rather than compare NPS with freshman-entry colleges.
A single graduate salary figure would be a poor description of NPS career outcomes. Its students include service members and government personnel whose education may occur within an existing career and whose subsequent pay can depend on rank, years of service, occupation, and employer.
Program-level earnings statistics are most useful when they identify the population measured, whether the number is a median or mean, and how long after study it was collected. Those distinctions matter especially at NPS: a civilian job-search outcome and a military officer's continued service measure different things. Applicants should evaluate a program's relevance to their career or sponsor's requirements without treating an earnings estimate as a salary promise.
