IDSVA's recurring academic gatherings are its residencies, where students can study and discuss ideas together in person. They function differently from homecoming, a student festival, or other traditions associated with residential undergraduate colleges.
The locations and content of residencies may change, so prospective students should use the schedule for their own cohort to understand the actual calendar. Asking what happens during a residency - including seminars, presentations, research activities, and time with faculty - will provide a more useful picture of the IDSVA experience than assuming a fixed set of campus celebrations.
IDSVA's low-residency model should not be mistaken for a residential college with a standard room-and-board plan. Students need to plan for housing and meals where they normally live and for accommodations during required in-person study.
For each residency, applicants should determine whether IDSVA arranges lodging, requires a particular location, or leaves booking to students. They should also check what meals, if any, are included. The distinction affects both cost and logistics: a quoted tuition amount does not necessarily cover travel, overnight stays, or food, and an arranged accommodation should not be interpreted as year-round student housing.
