Published tuition is only part of the cost of attending HCC. The 2025-26 institutional figures report the following average full-time undergraduate tuition and required fees; an individual bill depends on residency classification, credit load, course charges, and any applicable in-district rate.
These figures are not a complete annual living budget. Books and supplies, transportation, food, and housing can materially change what a student needs, especially in a multicampus commuter system. A reported books-and-supplies figure is about $1,125, but costs vary by courses and whether materials are included in course charges. Students should use the current HCC tuition schedule and an individualized financial-aid cost-of-attendance estimate rather than add figures from different reporting years.
Net price estimates the amount remaining after grant and scholarship aid for students in the relevant federal reporting population; it is not an individual quote. In the 2024-25 institutional figures, average net price was $4,271 for students from families earning up to $48,000 and $6,534 for those in the next reported income band, $48,001-$75,000. Actual aid and living costs can differ substantially.
Eligible students can seek federal grants, Texas aid, scholarships, and federal loans by completing the appropriate aid application and HCC follow-up requirements. In the same institutional figures, 69% of students received financial aid and 15% received student loans. Receiving aid does not mean every expense is covered, and a loan must generally be repaid.
Students may be able to combine classes with paid work through Federal Work-Study or other part-time employment. Federal Work-Study is need-based financial aid awarded to eligible students; it is not a grant paid automatically, and an award does not itself place a student in a job.
An interested student should complete the financial-aid application, review the resulting aid offer, and follow HCC's process for finding and applying to eligible positions. Hours and earnings depend on the position, available funding, and the award. An ordinary campus or off-campus job may have different eligibility rules and may not be part of financial aid.
HCC's career services are a separate resource for exploring occupations and seeking work. Students can look for advising, résumé and interview assistance, job-search resources, and employer events appropriate to their campus or program. An internship, when offered or required by a particular program, should be checked separately for academic credit, pay, and scheduling requirements.
