Conventional four- and six-year undergraduate graduation rates are a poor measure of outcomes at AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management. Those measures track specified groups of first-time undergraduates; AFIT's degree students are graduate students.
A more useful comparison is completion within the expected period for a particular master's or doctoral program. Thesis and dissertation requirements, research approvals, and a sponsoring organization's timetable can affect that period. Applicants should ask the program for recent completion and time-to-degree information for students in the degree and sponsorship category they are considering.
AFIT should not be evaluated through a single promised post-graduation salary. Many students study while serving in the military or working for a government sponsor, and their subsequent compensation can depend on rank, years of service, occupation, and employer rather than on the degree alone.
For a prospective student, the more useful financial questions may be whether a sponsor covers tuition, whether pay continues during study, and whether the education creates a service or employment obligation. A civilian applicant comparing programs should also consider the occupation they intend to enter and the costs they personally expect to incur.
