AFIT is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Institutional accreditation evaluates an institution as a whole; it does not mean that every individual degree holds a separate professional accreditation.
Applicants who need programmatic accreditation for employment or licensure should check the status of their specific degree with AFIT and the relevant professional accreditor. HLC accreditation is an important institutional quality-assurance credential, but receiving transfer credit, qualifying for a particular form of financial aid, or meeting a licensing board's rules can involve additional requirements.
Admission to AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management is graduate admission: applicants generally need an appropriate bachelor's degree, academic records, and preparation for the proposed field. High-school GPA and SAT or ACT scores are not the central admissions measures for these programs.
Requirements can differ by degree, department, and applicant category. A military officer seeking a service-sponsored assignment, a civilian employee sponsored by an agency, and another eligible applicant may face different nomination, funding, and administrative steps. Applicants should check the current graduate admissions instructions for the required application, transcripts, recommendations, test or English-proficiency rules where applicable, and the deadline for their intended entry term.
Academic admission should also be distinguished from permission to undertake a particular project. Some research or facilities may have citizenship, clearance, sponsorship, or installation-access restrictions.
Applicants should check AFIT's current graduate application instructions for the fee, if any, attached to their applicant category and submission route. A sponsoring service or agency may have a different administrative process from an individual applicant.
Before paying, confirm whether a charge is an application fee rather than tuition, an enrollment payment, or a fee associated with another program. Applicants who need a waiver should ask the graduate admissions office about eligibility and timing before submitting a payment; a waiver should not be assumed simply because a student is military-affiliated.
AFIT's Graduate School of Engineering and Management is not an undergraduate ROTC pathway. ROTC is primarily a commissioning program for students pursuing undergraduate degrees, while AFIT chiefly serves people undertaking graduate or professional education.
An applicant seeking an Air Force, Army, or Navy ROTC detachment should look for a participating undergraduate institution and verify its host or cross-enrollment arrangements. Military affiliation at AFIT should not be mistaken for access to an ROTC unit or an ROTC scholarship through the graduate school.
AFIT is a graduate institution, so its relevant question is whether prior graduate coursework can count toward a particular degree - not whether an incoming undergraduate qualifies as a transfer student. Acceptance into a program and acceptance of individual courses for degree credit are separate decisions.
Applicants with prior graduate study should provide official transcripts and request an evaluation from the proposed program. The department can determine whether earlier courses match its content, credit, grade, recency, and minimum AFIT study requirements. Undergraduate AP or introductory transfer-credit policies are not useful substitutes for that graduate-level evaluation.
AFIT's graduate programs are centered on study and research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, rather than a conventional semester-abroad model. International classmates, defense partnerships, or travel connected to an assignment should not be assumed to constitute an approved study-abroad program.
A student considering overseas research or coursework needs advance approval from the academic program and, where applicable, a sponsoring service or agency. Credit, funding, travel authorization, and restrictions on research information would each need to be resolved before departure.
