Standard first-time undergraduate graduation rates are a poor way to judge this specialized graduate school. The relevant outcome is completion of the particular acupuncture credential within its expected time frame.
Applicants can ask for recent cohort-level results: how many students entered a program, how many completed it, the time they took, and whether students who transferred or paused enrollment are counted. They should also distinguish graduation from licensing-exam performance and licensure. Each measures a different stage of becoming a practitioner, and none alone explains why an individual student did or did not finish.
Students should not treat an acupuncture degree as a promise of a particular salary. Earnings can vary substantially with state licensing rules, employment versus self-employment, patient volume, hours worked, and the costs of operating a practice.
When comparing published earnings figures, check who was measured, whether the amount is a median or an average, and how long after enrollment or completion the measurement occurred. An earnings figure for former federal-aid recipients, for example, would not necessarily describe every graduate. A realistic financial plan should consider both expected income and professional expenses, including licensing, insurance, continuing education, and any student-loan payments.
