About 60% of the reported first-time, full-time student cohort graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland within four years; about 70% graduated within six years. These measures track a defined entering cohort, not every student who attended during those years.
The reported first-year retention rate was 86%, measuring the share who returned for the following fall. Retention and graduation figures answer different questions: returning for year two is not the same as completing a degree. Transfers, part-time students, and students who finish elsewhere are not fully described by the standard first-time, full-time graduation measure.
For planning purposes, the difference between the four- and six-year rates matters financially. An additional term can add living costs and delay entry into full-time work, even when a student ultimately completes the degree.
College Scorecard field-of-study figures give a limited view of earnings one year after completion for graduates represented in federal data. They are not starting-salary offers, and they do not predict what every graduate in a major will earn.
Reported one-year median earnings include $66,972 for computer and information sciences and $58,718 for mathematics. Other reported examples are $43,905 for economics, $31,570 for general biology, and $28,686 for psychology. Differences can reflect occupation, location, further study, and which graduates have earnings included in the measure.
A one-year figure is particularly incomplete for fields in which graduates commonly enter graduate school or build experience before moving into their intended profession. Students comparing majors should consider career paths, the cost of additional credentials, and longer-term outcomes alongside this measure.
