Commencement is Excelsior University's clearest recurring institutional tradition. It brings graduates of a geographically dispersed university together to mark degrees that many have pursued alongside work, military service, or other responsibilities.
Students should check the current commencement arrangements before making travel plans. Participation in a ceremony and the official conferral of a degree are separate matters; graduation still depends on satisfying the academic and administrative requirements of the student's program.
Excelsior University does not provide college-owned or college-operated undergraduate housing. Students should not plan on an on-campus residence hall, a first-year housing assignment, or a university meal plan.
For most students, housing and food are costs of living where they already study, not charges for an Albany residential package. A student who needs to travel for a ceremony or a program requirement should budget for that trip separately. The absence of university housing also means that a published room-and-board allowance in a financial aid budget should not be mistaken for the price of housing supplied by Excelsior.
