Mid-America Christian University is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Institutional accreditation applies to the university as a whole, rather than automatically certifying each professional program for licensure.
HLC accreditation is relevant to eligibility for federal student aid and to how other institutions may evaluate MACU coursework. It does not guarantee that another college will accept a credit or that a graduate will qualify for a professional license. Applicants to teaching, counseling and other regulated fields should separately check the program's approvals and the requirements of the state where they plan to work. HLC's institution directory is the appropriate place to check accreditation status when making an enrollment decision.
First-year applicants should expect to submit an application and a secondary-school record showing graduation or an accepted equivalent, such as a GED. MACU is not an open-admission institution, although its reported admission rate for first-time applicants was 92%: 345 of 376 applicants were admitted in the reported cohort.
In the 2024-25 admissions reporting, high school GPA, class rank, recommendations and SAT or ACT results were considered but not required; the secondary-school record was required. Only a minority of enrolled first-time students submitted ACT scores, and fewer submitted SAT scores. Applicants should not interpret an optional test as a requirement, or the admission rate as a guarantee of admission.
English-language proficiency requirements can apply to applicants whose prior education does not establish the required level of English; TOEFL appears among the university's reported requirements. Graduate programs, transfer applicants and licensure-track majors may have different documentation standards. The application instructions for the applicant's particular program should govern deadlines, transcripts and any additional materials.
Applicants should check the fee shown in MACU's current application process before submitting, particularly if they are applying to an online, graduate or adult-degree program. An application charge is separate from an enrollment deposit, orientation charge or tuition payment.
Anyone who needs a fee waiver should ask admissions about eligibility and the request procedure before paying. A waiver generally cannot be assumed from financial-aid eligibility alone, and paying first may make a charge difficult to reverse.
Students considering ROTC should not assume that MACU operates an Army, Air Force or Navy ROTC unit on its campus. Participation through another college, when permitted, is a separate cross-enrollment arrangement that must be confirmed with the host ROTC unit and MACU.
Before relying on ROTC to fit a degree plan, an applicant should ask the relevant host unit whether MACU students may enroll, where military-science courses and training take place, and how those credits fit the MACU program. ROTC scholarships have separate application rules; participation or scholarship acceptance can also involve a military service obligation.
MACU generally accepts transfer credit from accredited institutions and admits transfer students for fall, spring and summer entry. Admission to the university and acceptance of individual courses toward a degree are different decisions.
Transfer applicants should submit official college transcripts and obtain a program-specific evaluation showing which courses satisfy general education, major and elective requirements. Prior credit can also be considered through AP, CLEP, DSST/DANTES and certain American Council on Education recommendations; MACU reports that it awards credit for some life experiences. The applicable limits, documentation rules and minimum coursework to be completed at MACU should be checked against the current catalog before a student commits to a start date.
This distinction matters especially for education and other sequenced majors: a course can transfer as credit without replacing a required prerequisite or supervised experience.
Students interested in study abroad should establish whether a proposed overseas course or program can count toward their MACU degree before enrolling or paying a provider. Approval to travel and approval to receive degree credit are not the same thing.
The questions to put to an academic adviser are whether MACU sponsors the particular opportunity or would treat it as outside study, who awards the transcript, how courses will be evaluated, and whether the term would affect graduation timing. The financial-aid office should review aid eligibility separately; aid that applies to ordinary MACU enrollment should not be assumed to cover every third-party or international program.
