Community College of Denver is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Institutional accreditation evaluates the college as a whole; it is distinct from accreditation or approval of an individual professional program.
For students, HLC accreditation is relevant to eligibility for federal student aid and to how other colleges review transfer credit. It does not mean that another institution must accept every CCD course. Students entering a licensed profession should also check their specific program's current approval or specialized accreditation and the licensing rules in the state where they intend to work. Those requirements can differ substantially among health and technical fields.
CCD has an open-admission policy, so general admission is not based on a selective collegewide acceptance rate. Applicants ordinarily begin with the college application and then complete the enrollment steps appropriate to their student category and intended program.
Degree-seeking students should be prepared to document high school completion or an equivalent credential, such as a GED, when required for their enrollment or financial-aid status. Previous college transcripts are important for students seeking transfer credit. Placement and advising determine a useful starting point in coursework; applicants should not assume that SAT or ACT scores are required for general admission.
Open admission does not override prerequisites or separate selection processes for individual programs. A health program, for example, may require prerequisite courses, a background check, immunizations, or a distinct application. International applicants and students seeking English-language support may also face additional documentation or placement steps. Because course availability and program deadlines can differ from the college's general application timeline, applicants should check the requirements for their chosen credential before enrolling.
Applicants should distinguish CCD's general college application from any separate application or screening process for a limited-admission program. An application charge should be confirmed in the current application instructions before submission rather than inferred from tuition or other enrollment costs.
If an application displays a fee that presents a hardship, the practical step is to ask CCD admissions about waiver eligibility and how to request a waiver before paying. Program-related expenses, such as testing or background checks, are separate from a college application fee and may follow different waiver rules.
Army ROTC participation is identified as available through a cooperating host institution, rather than as a CCD-operated ROTC unit. Students considering this route need to confirm the current host, cross-enrollment procedure, and whether its class times fit their CCD schedule.
ROTC participation is not automatically included with admission to CCD. Scholarship eligibility, medical and academic standards, course sequencing, and any eventual service obligation depend on the host program and the student's participation or contract status. Students interested in Air Force or Navy ROTC should verify a current cross-enrollment arrangement directly with the relevant host before planning coursework around it.
CCD generally accepts transfer credit from other accredited institutions, but admission to CCD and acceptance of a particular course for a particular requirement are separate decisions. Transfer students may enter in fall, spring, or summer, subject to course availability and any program-specific deadlines.
Applicants should submit official transcripts from every prior college they want evaluated. CCD also recognizes several other potential sources of credit, including Advanced Placement, CLEP, DSST, and some American Council on Education recommendations; applicable scores, documentation, credit limits, and degree requirements still control how that credit is used. Credit for prior learning can be valuable, but an award of credit at CCD may not transfer onward in the same way.
Students transferring from CCD to a four-year institution should work backward from the intended university program. Colorado transfer agreements can make certain associate-degree pathways more predictable, while specialized majors may require particular courses or grades. An official evaluation and an academic plan are more reliable than assuming that all previously earned credits will apply to a new credential.
Study abroad should not be assumed to be a built-in part of a CCD degree or certificate. A student interested in a short-term, partner, or independently arranged program should establish in advance whether CCD will approve the coursework and how it would apply to the student's credential.
Written academic approval matters especially for students intending to transfer: CCD's acceptance of a course does not settle whether a future university will accept it for a major. Students using financial aid should also ask the financial-aid office whether an approved program qualifies for aid and how travel, living expenses, and enrollment status would be treated.
