Claremont Lincoln University holds institutional accreditation from the WASC Senior College and University Commission, commonly called WSCUC. Institutional accreditation evaluates the university as a whole; it is distinct from any specialized accreditation that an individual professional program might need.
For students, institutional accreditation is an important consideration when evaluating degree recognition and eligibility for federal financial aid. It does not guarantee that another college will accept a particular course in transfer, or that a degree meets a state's licensing rules. Applicants pursuing a regulated profession should check the requirements of the relevant licensing board and their specific CLU program.
Admission to CLU depends on the degree and applicant category; the university does not report an open-admission policy. An applicant should use the application for the intended program and be prepared to document prior education through official academic records.
For bachelor's-level applicants, the key questions are how prior college work will be evaluated and what credential is required for entry. Graduate applicants should check their program's bachelor's-degree prerequisite and any additional requirements. Applicants educated outside the United States should also verify credential-evaluation and English-proficiency rules. CLU's small, adult-oriented student population makes a conventional first-year SAT or ACT profile a poor substitute for the program's actual admissions criteria.
Applicants should check CLU's current application instructions for the fee applicable to their degree and application route before submitting a form. An application charge, if assessed, is separate from tuition or any enrollment deposit.
Anyone who may qualify for a waiver should ask admissions whether one is offered for their applicant category and whether approval must come before submission. Assuming that an application can be refunded after payment could create an avoidable expense.
CLU is not a conventional campus-based ROTC school, and applicants should not assume that enrollment gives them access to an Army, Air Force, or Navy ROTC unit. A nearby institution's ROTC program does not automatically admit CLU students.
Students considering a commission should ask the ROTC unit they hope to join whether cross-enrollment is permitted for CLU students and whether their degree and enrollment schedule satisfy its rules. ROTC participation and scholarships have separate eligibility, application, training, and service requirements.
Transfer applicants should submit their prior college records for an evaluation specific to the CLU degree they intend to complete. Admission and transfer credit are separate decisions: acceptance to a program does not mean every previously earned course will satisfy a degree requirement.
CLU reports accepting credit for life experience and Advanced Placement work, but applicants should obtain written guidance on documentation, credit limits, and how any award applies to their program. Before enrolling, request an official evaluation showing which courses fulfill requirements, how many credits remain, and how many must be completed through CLU. Students with professional training or several prior institutions should pay particular attention to that last calculation.
Students should not assume that CLU's online degrees include a conventional semester-abroad or exchange option. Its emphasis on dialogue across communities is different from operating a study-abroad program.
An applicant who wants international coursework or an overseas internship should obtain program-specific approval before making plans. The important questions are whether the experience can carry CLU credit, how it would meet degree requirements, and whether financial aid could apply. Enrollment in a third-party program does not, by itself, establish any of those conditions.
