A conventional four- or six-year undergraduate graduation rate would be a poor stand-alone measure of outcomes at this specialized institution. Its professional programs should instead be evaluated using completion figures for the relevant credential and entering cohort.
When comparing schools, ask how a completion rate treats part-time students, transfers, leaves of absence, and changes between programs. For a licensure-oriented course of study, the percentage completing the credential and the percentage meeting examination eligibility answer different questions; neither should be substituted for the other.
Prospective students should be cautious about using a single earnings estimate to predict the financial return from an American Academy of Health and Wellness credential. Acupuncture practitioners may work as employees, independent contractors, or self-employed clinicians, arrangements that can produce very different income patterns.
An earnings comparison is meaningful only if it identifies whom it measures, when income was measured, and whether the figure is a median, mean, or another statistic. Students assessing affordability should also account for time spent building a practice, licensing and examination expenses, and the difference between business revenue and personal earnings.
