Overview

The University of East Anglia (UEA) is a public research educational institute of higher education in Norwich, England. It was established in 1963 and became a community where students can pursue personal and professional success. The internationally renowned university consistently ranks as one of the best not only in the region but also worldwide. It offers high-quality academic and social facilities to its students and faculty members.

The campus is continuously evolving through various expansion and development projects. Currently, it occupies a large part of the Norwich Research Park. It comprises various academic and research buildings and facilities, accommodation blocks, residence halls, a 24-hour library and other study halls, the Union Pub, a recreation venue called the Lower Common Room (LCR), various bars and coffee shops, and more. It also includes a university lake found in the southern edge and The Square which serves as an outdoor open space where students meet.

UEA offers degree-granting programs and over 300 courses. It is organized into several faculties that house departments and schools of study. These include the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The latter includes the Norwich Business School and the university’s law school.

Aside from its academic programs, the university has active research initiatives. Research is deeply embedded into its degree programs with its interdisciplinary approach. Students are encouraged to explore relevant topics and seek opportunities for further studies. It is an active partner in the Norwich Research Park along with the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital, the Quadram Institute, the John Innes Center, the Earlham Institute, and the Sainsbury Laboratory.

Students have the opportunity to work with other researchers from various industries outside the university. Some of the notable research centers and groups are the Addiction Research Group; the Applied Econometrics and Finance; the Biomedical Research Center; the Cancer Studies Group; the Center for Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation; the Climatic Research Unit; the Globalisation and Corporate Social Responsibility, the Energy Materials Laboratory, and the Innovation Technology and Operations Management Group, to name a few.

Students enrolled in the university automatically become members of the UEA Student Union, with the option to opt out if they choose to. Members can participate in many activities of the union through various societies and clubs. They can also join various other interest groups from football clubs to a Quidditch team. Additionally, they can join various democratic processes through the union. The university and the union also organize various events such as club nights, gigs, fundraising and charity events, and various concerts.
