Overview

The University of Évry Val d'Essonne, or simply the University of Évry, is a public academic institution situated in a commune just outside of Paris, France, called Évry-Courcouronnes. Established in 1991, the university became part of a project that focused on improving the quality of higher education in the region of Ile-de-France, along with three other universities that were founded in the same year, playing a key role as a scientific, cultural, and professional institution. The University of Évry is also a pioneer member and stakeholder of the University of Paris-Saclay, another academic institution that was formed through the collaboration of universities, research organizations, grandes écoles, and the Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies.

In terms of academic offerings, the University of Évry has a varied selection of programs that encompass a wide range of studies, such as political science, arts and music, languages, fundamental and applied sciences, social sciences, and more. Aside from quality teaching and training, the University of Évry excels in scientific research. One of its outstanding works is its genomics and postgenomics research conducted with the support of a biotechnology company called Genopole. The aim of the joint research is to develop a campus that promotes the value of the environment, health, and industry through the integration of research with various disciplines, including social sciences, economics, ecology, mathematics, information technology, and others.

The University of Évry has also partnered with other academic institutions to further enhance training, education, and research in the area of technological innovation. One of the university’s notable partners is the National School of Computing for Industry and Business, a reputable engineering school that has produced thousands of excellent professionals in the past 40 years. The partnerships established extend to the universities in foreign countries, such as Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, Poland, and others.

Despite being a fairly young university compared to other prestigious institutions in the country, the University of Évry has made significant contributions to the genomics industry. The university also plays a lead role in various research activities in the areas of robotics, sociology of work, applied mathematics, and contemporary history and musicology. Furthermore, the university’s effort to strive for academic excellence and innovative research has been recognized by award-giving bodies. Among these awards are trophies from the Ile-de-France Digital Innovation in Higher Education Awards, gold medal from the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, and the Louis Pasteur Medal in 2014.
