What is D-index acceptance threshold for Microbiology
The D-index threshold for accepting a scholar to be examined is placed at 40 if most of their publications are in the field of Microbiology. The approval factors for scientists to be considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index, proportion of the publications made within the selected area as well as the awards and achievements of the scientists. The D-index threshold for including leading researchers is set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of scientists estimated for each scientific field whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading scholars are added into the list. We estimate a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index.

Extra verification methods
As our main aim is to make sure that only actual scientists are included in Research.com ranking we realize that metrics are never supposed to be an absolute measure to quantify the work of researchers. This is why we manually check each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a varied range of trustworthy sources. While it’s not a metric contributing to a scientist’s position in the ranking, the quantity of documents published in major journals and conference proceedings should form a reliable secondary indication of their contribution to research in a specific discipline. Position in the ranking is established using each scholar’s D-index with the help of metrics collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-known bibliometric databases of this kind accessible to the research community. A thorough definition of our research procedures can be found on our methodology page.

Our goal
Our aim is to inspire scientists, entrepreneurs and decision-makers worldwide to explore where prominent experts are heading and to give an opportunity for the entire scientific community to discover who the leading experts in specific areas of study, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
