The range of our Materials Science research

What is D-index acceptance threshold for Materials Science
The D-index threshold for including a scholar to be considered is placed at 40 if the majority of of their publications are in the discipline of Materials Science. The approval criteria for researchers to be considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, proportion of the contributions made within the specific field of study in addition to the awards and achievements of the scientists. The D-index threshold for considering top scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of researchers assessed for each discipline whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of best scientists are incorporated into the ranking. We estimate a proximity of 30% or less between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.

Other verification methods
Since our main goal is to ensure that only actual researchers are mentioned in the ranking we believe that raw data are never supposed to be an absolute tool to evaluate the contributions of scientists. For that reason we manually verify each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a wide range of credible sources. While it’s not a factor defining a researcher’s position in our ranking, the amount of documents published in major journals and conference proceedings should be a valuable secondary indication of their contribution to research in a given area of science. Position in the ranking is based on each researcher’s D-index using information collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most prominent and well-known bibliometric databases of this type open to the research community. A thorough explanation of our research procedures can be found on our methodology page.

Our goal
Our goal is to motivate researchers, businessmen and administrative bodies around the world to examine where leading experts are heading and to provide a way for the whole scientific community to discover who the leading experts in specific areas of study, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
