The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the field
of Ecology and Evolution relies os data consolidated from
a wide range of data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for
estimating the citation-based metrics were collected on 21-12-2022.
Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking
scientist's affiliated with a given institution. D-index
only includes papers and citation

The scope of our Ecology and Evolution research
Our best universities ranking is a credible lineup of
leading scientists from the discipline of Ecology and Evolution ,
based on a meticulous analysis
of 166,880 researchers determined from
various bibliometric data sources. For the field of
Ecology and Evolution, as many as 11774 scholars were
examined.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Ecology and Evolution
The D-index threshold for approving a researcher to be
evaluated is established at 30 if
most of their publications are in the discipline of Ecology and Evolution. The
inclusion criteria for scholars to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index,
ratio of the contributions made within the specific
area in addition to the awards and achievements of the
researchers. The D-index threshold for listing best
scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of
researchers projected for each
scientific field whilst making sure that the top 1% of
leading researchers are added into the ranking.
We estimate a proximity of 30% or less between a
scientist’s general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification rules
Since our primary aim is to ensure that only
genuine researchers are mentioned in
Research.com ranking we believe that numbers are never
meant to be a complete means to evaluate the
work of scholars. Because of that
we manually check each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of credible sources. Although it’s not a
element impacting a scientist’s position in
Research.com ranking, the quantity of papers published in
well-known journals and conference proceedings should be a
credible secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
given discipline. Position in the ranking is
established using each researcher’s D-index
with the help of information gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-known bibliometric
databases of this type available to the scientific community. A
detailed definition of our research process
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our aim is to motivate researchers,
businessmen and politicians
worldwide to examine where leading experts are heading
and to provide a way for the entire scientific community to
discover who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in different countries, or even within research
institutions are.
