The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the arena
of Ecology and Evolution was created using data combined from
multiple data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for
estimating the citation-based metrics were gathered on 21-12-2022.
Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking
researcher’s affiliated with a given institution. D-index
takes into account only publications and citation
values for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Ecology and Evolution research
Our best universities ranking is a trustworthy list of
leading scientists from the discipline of Ecology and Evolution ,
created using a detailed analysis
of 166,880 scientists identified from
a variety of bibliometric data sources. For the discipline of
Ecology and Evolution, as many as 11774 scientists were
analysed.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Ecology and Evolution
The D-index threshold for approving a scientist to be
examined is placed at 30 if
the majority of of their publications are in the area of Ecology and Evolution. The
inclusion criteria for scholars to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index,
ratio of the contributions made within the selected
discipline in addition to the awards and achievements of the
scholars. The D-index threshold for including top
scientists is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of
scientists assessed for each
area od study whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of
leading scholars are considered into the list.
There should be a proximity of 30% or less between a
researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification practices
Because our primary goal is to ensure that only
actual researchers are included in
the ranking we believe that numbers are never
meant to be a full measure to assess the
contributions of scholars. Because of that
we manually check every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
broad range of reliable sources. Although it’s not a
element defining a scientist’s position in
the ranking, the number of documents published in
prominent journals and conference proceedings should constitute a
credible secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
specific discipline. Position in the ranking is
based on every scientist’s D-index
using information gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-established bibliometric
databases of this kind available to the research community. A
detailed overview of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our mission is to inspire scientists,
entrepreneurs and politicians
worldwide to explore where prominent experts are heading
and to provide a way for the entire scientific community to
get to know who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
