The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the discipline
of Biology and Biochemistry was created using data combined from
multiple data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for
devising the citation-based metrics were gathered on 06-12-2021.
Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking
researcher’s affiliated with a given institution. D-index
takes into account only papers and citation
data for an examined discipline.

The range of our Biology and Biochemistry research
Our best universities ranking is a credible list of
leading scientists from the field of Biology and Biochemistry ,
based on a meticulous study
of 166,880 scientists discovered from
multiple bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Biology and Biochemistry, more than 23135 researchers were
analysed.
What is D-index approval threshold for Biology and Biochemistry
The D-index threshold for accepting a researcher to be
considered is set to 40 if
the majority of of their publications are in the field of Biology and Biochemistry. The
inclusion criteria for researchers to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index,
proportion of the publications made within the specific
area plus the awards and achievements of the
scholars. The D-index threshold for listing top
scientists is set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of
researchers projected for each
area od study whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of
leading researchers are incorporated into the list.
We expect a proximity of 30% or less between a
researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.
Extra verification practices
Since our main mission is to make sure that only
actual scientists are listed in
the ranking we believe that metrics are never
supposed to be a complete measure to quantify the
output of scholars. Because of that
we manually inspect every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
broad range of reliable sources. While it’s not a
factor contributing to a scholar’s position in
Research.com ranking, the quantity of documents published in
major journals and conference proceedings should constitute a
valuable secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
specific discipline. Position in the ranking is
established using every scholar’s D-index
using data gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most prominent and well-known bibliometric
databases of this kind accessible to the research community. A
detailed overview of our research process
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our agenda
Our objective is to inspire scientists,
entrepreneurs and administrative bodies
worldwide to explore where prominent experts are heading
and to give a way for the entire research community to
get to know who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
