Data Sources and Calculation Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Ukraine Ranking is built on a rigorous and data-driven approach, primarily utilizing bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data providers. The foundation of the ranking relies on citation-based metrics, with the relevant bibliometric data extracted as of 2024-11-27.
The position of each institution in the ranking is determined by summing the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all scholars affiliated with it who are included in the ranking. The D-index measures research output and citation impact exclusively within the context of a scholar's examined discipline, yet the ranking process recognizes scientists from all major research areas to ensure comprehensive and cross-disciplinary evaluation.
Scope of Research Considered
The ranking is based on an extensive dataset, analyzing 279,971 scientist profiles identified from multiple bibliometric sources, spanning all key scientific disciplines. In order to guarantee high standards of scientific merit, only scientists with a D-index of 20 or more were included in the evaluation. Furthermore, distinctions such as awards, honors, and achievements within a scientist's field of study were also considered, providing additional recognition of outstanding scholarly accomplishments.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team acknowledges that bibliometric data, while valuable, must be interpreted with caution and does not offer a complete measure of scholarly output. Hence, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced with publications catalogued in a wide spectrum of credible sources to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the ranking.
Although publication count in reputable journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a scientist’s position in the Research.com ranking, it is recognized as a relevant complementary indicator of a researcher's standing and contribution within their discipline. Ranking positions are ultimately established by each scholar’s H-index, as determined by data from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most prominent and widely utilized bibliometric databases accessible to the academic community.
