Special Issue Call for Papers


With the development of mobile internet networks (MIN) and the internet-of-things (IoT), there exist great challenges for the future B5G/6G wireless Communication networks to support massive connectivity and seamless connection under limited spectrum. To address the above challenges, a variety of physical layer technologies have emerged in response such as massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), millimeter wave (mmWave), small cell networks (SCN), satellite communication and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Among these technologies, UAV communication has attracted considerable attention from academic and industry.



UAVs, also commonly known as drones or remotely piloted aircrafts, have found various applications nowadays. At first, UAVs are primarily used in the military to defend against enemies and reduce the use of pilots. At present, no matter in the civil or military field, the application of UAVs can be said to be everywhere such as environmental detection, traffic monitoring, agricultural plant protection and disaster relief, etc. With the rapid development of computing, caching, sensing, communications and control, UAVs communications networks play a non-negligible role for the B5G/6G networks, which can be used in a variety of scenarios and applications. To improve coverage, reliability and energy efficiency of wireless networks, UAVs can be acted as aerial base stations, access points (APs), relays or flying mobile terminals within a cellular network. In practice, UAVs meet challenges to introduce paradigms related to the B5G/6G commercial scenarios.



This Special Issue aims to bring together researchers and industry professionals to report recent research emerging trends and challenges in UAVs for the B5G/6G networks. In light of the current interest in critical UAV-enable B5G/6G networks, this Special Issue welcomes research that discusses network architecture and system design, fog and edge computing, big data and machine learning. We invite researchers to contribute original research and review articles that identify opportunities and challenges for 5G and beyond technologies:
