The digital economy is accelerating and evolving, especially in emerging markets.
Novel business models are emerging that are challenging traditional business models, and current organizational structures are being superceded by the platform economy of algorithm+big data+computing power. This includes the use of an array of enabling technologies including the Internet of Things, gig data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, augmented and virtual Reality and smart manufacturing.
This theme issue is intended to bring together research contributions from a variety of disciplines that can shed light on emerging business, technology and social issues in the digital economy and how they relate to each other.
It aims to publish high-quality contributions, especially of application-oriented research into the digital economy, and will serve as a reference point for research that is advancing the digital economy and a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in this area.
Submissions should be original papers and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Extended versions of high quality conference papers that are already published at relevant venues may also be considered as long as the additional contribution is substantial (at least 30% of new content).
