Scope:



The modernization of social life is accelerating gradually, and the urban population is increasing year by year. As a result, the traditional medical system is encountering great pressure. With the rapid development of the Internet, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of things, the degree of social digitization and intelligence is increasingly improved. The relevant concept of “smart city” is deeply rooted in the people’s hearts and minds, and gradually becomes the trend of development. In this case, the intelligent reform of the medical system is imperative. Traditional medical treatment and treatment services are mainly based on human resources. In the face of the increasing number of patients and people’s higher medical requirements, traditional medical treatment often has some shortcomings, such as poor service quality, unreasonable resource allocation, and bad patient experiences. Due to the economic and social development conditions and the differences in regional economic development, the development speed of the medical system in different countries and regions is different all over the world. In some countries or regions, the problems, such as insufficient medical system security, poor medical infrastructure, lack of medical staff and disordered management of the medical system, are still very serious. The difficulty in achieving medical treatment for residents is one of the prominent problems in society. In some countries and regions with rapid economic development, it is necessary to improve the staff’s medical ability and medical conditions, establish a people-oriented working concept, and promote the intelligent development of the medical system. Because of the impact of Corona Virus Disease 2019, there is huge pressure on medical institutions at all levels in the world. Since the hospital wards are short, some patients cannot get effective treatment in time, and some even lose their lives. Meanwhile, the hospital has a sharp increase in the number of patients, which leads to the disorder of the hospital management system. The problems, such as the great shortage of medical personnel and medical equipment, the phenomenon of patients’ nervous anxiety, the chaotic treatment process, and the psychological pressure of medical staff, are followed accordingly, which greatly affects the treatment effect. Under this circumstance, the most important thing is to carry out the digital and intelligent reform of the medical system, and use advanced technology to assist patients in medical treatment and daily management of the hospital, improving the ability of the hospital to respond to and manage emergencies and meeting the increasing needs of the residents.



In the practice of using digital means to innovate medical services, the most concern is the application of smart hospitals and smart wards. Although the concepts have been put forward for a short time, they become the focus of society. The intelligent medical theory is based on digital technology, the Internet of things, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other related Internet technologies. And with the development of technology, the concept is updated accordingly. The hospital environment is a whole system involving many departments, including outpatient service, hospitalization, operation environment, mental health, remote assistance, follow-up care and other links. As an advanced means of medical support, digital and other intelligent technologies are an important part of smart medicine. Various information management systems and digital intelligent terminals are combined to realize the convenient one-button interaction between doctors and patients. Intelligent ward can use the information platform to introduce information interaction, physical signs collection, infusion monitoring and other systems in the ward. The mobile cart is used to carry out shift handover and joint inspection, and help the implementation of integrated medical care mode. The whole medical service is performed by three dimensions, namely intelligent service, intelligent medical treatment, and intelligent management to help patients with admission, hospitalization, discharge, family, and community, which brings new wisdom experience to patients. Nowadays, the research on related issues generally stays in the theoretical analysis and the improvement of the external environment, while there are rare studies on digital medical service which is directly related to patients. Moreover, few researchers study the application of digital technology in medical management systems and emergency management systems. Therefore, it has great research value and practical significance to research digital intelligent medical services.



At present, in the research of intelligent medical systems, researchers focus on the application of artificial intelligence, the establishment of the Internet of things intelligent ward platform, the proposal of intelligent management mode, the mobilization of superior medical resources, and integrated management. The purpose is to provide the scholars in the related fields with space for full exchange and learning, and provide readers with comprehensive research on the intelligent medical system and intelligent ward environment. This special issue encourages researchers to use advanced technology and theoretical methods to carry out innovative research. The original and comment articles, as well as opinions, methods and modeling studies, are warmly welcomed..

Please see the “Guide for Authors” and “Submit Your Paper” links. When submitting a paper to this special issue, please make sure to select the Article Type“VSI: SMSDT” option when prompted for “Select Article Type” during the submission process.



All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to clearly identify prior submissions/papers and attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles with a summary explanation documenting the enhancements made in the journal submission. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed using the normal standards of SUSCOM. By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee at least one paper if requested by SUSCOM editors.
