Intelligent software services for IoT and edge computing is an important research area for the future ubiquitous software systems and services including IoT and Edge computing. Given the recent advances in heterogeneous sensor networks and cloud services, this research area is evolving from the traditional distributed computer systems and Internet of Things into intelligent edge computing. This future network computing will provide an environment where everyday physical objects such as buildings, sidewalks, and commodities are readable, recognizable, addressable, and even controllable using services via intelligent software provided through the Internet. The capability of integrating the information from both the physical world and the virtual one not only affects the way how we live, but also creates tremendous new business opportunities such as smart healthcare, intelligent traffic management, efficient supply chains, and improved environmental monitoring. The research in the area of intelligent software services for IoT and edge computing will underpin many new applications of the future ubiquitous systems that are user-centric and localized. Yet, several challenges remain to be addressed with regards to software service quality and reliability, service modeling and architecture, intelligent agents, data management, resource scheduling and optimization, deployment and testing, performance monitoring, and related issues that might be raised from real-world applications. This special issue aims at presenting the latest developments, trends, and research solutions of intelligent software services. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:

Paper submissions for the special issue should follow the submission format and guidelines (https://www.springer.com/journal/40860/submission-guidelines).Authors should select ‘SI: Intelligent software services for IoT and edge computing’ during the submission step 'Additional Information'.The submitted papers must provide original research that has not been published nor currently under review by other venues. Previously published conference papers should be clearly identified by the authors at the submission stage and an explanation should be provided about how such papers have been extended to be considered for this special issue.
Review processGuest editors will make an initial determination of the suitability and scope of all submissions. Papers will be evaluated based on their originality, presentation, relevance and contributions, as well as their suitability to the special issue. Papers that either lack originality, clarity in presentation or fall outside the scope of the special issue will not be sent for review and the authors will be promptly informed in such cases.A Peer Review procedure will follow in order to perform an objective and robust review of all the manuscripts. Every manuscript will be sent to at least three international reviewers, with recognized experience in the field.
