The term AI often implies the development of systems with the intellectual processes characteristic of human beings including the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, and learn from past experiences. With the technological advancement, major developments have been observed in the field of sciences such as medical, smart cities and aerospace etc. However, the application of AI and specifically machine learning algorithms are not limited to the sciences as shown by more recent studies focusing on social good, which may encompass any domains or fields that contribute to the well-being of the community/society including education, healthcare, poverty, businesses etc.
The main goals of this Special Issue are to:
i. potentially identify key research problems critical for the success of AI and machine learning in solving real-world social problems, and
ii. have scholars and researchers share their studies or success stories of applying AI techniques focusing on social good
We solicit submissions in all areas of AI and machine learning targeting social good. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Authors are invited to submit novel, high-quality work that has neither appeared in, nor is under consideration for publication by other journals or conferences.

Publication: December 2020
All papers will be reviewed according to the standard reviewing procedures for Journal of Supercomputing (https://www.springer.com/journal/11227)
