Best Chemistry Scientists

The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the best scholars in the field of Chemistry is based on data consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for evaluating the citation-based metrics were collected on 06-12-2021. Position in the ranking is based on a scholar’s D-index (Discipline H-index), which only includes papers and citation data for an examined discipline.

The focus of our Chemistry research
Our best scholars ranking is a trustworthy list of leading scientists from the field of Chemistry, established by means of a detailed analysis of 166,880 researchers identified from various bibliometric data sources. For the field of Chemistry, over 35760 scholars were analysed.

What is D-index acceptance threshold for Chemistry
The D-index threshold for approving a scholar to be considered is placed at 40 if the majority of of their publications are in the field of Chemistry. The approval requirements for scholars to be considered into the ranking of top scholars are based on the D-index, ratio of the contributions made within the selected area in addition to the awards and achievements of the scientists. The D-index threshold for listing best scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of scientists projected for each discipline whilst ensuring that the top 1% of leading scientists are incorporated into the list. We estimate a proximity of 30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.

Extra verification practices
Because our primary mission is to make sure that only genuine scientists are mentioned in Research.com ranking we realize that raw data are never meant to be a full tool to quantify the contributions of scientists. This is why we manually inspect each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a varied range of trustworthy sources. Even though it’s not a metric defining a scholar’s position in our ranking, the number of documents published in well-known journals and conference proceedings should be a reliable secondary implication of their contribution to research in a selected discipline. Position in the ranking is based on each researcher’s D-index using metrics collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most prominent and well-known bibliometric databases of this type available to the scientific community. A thorough explanation of our research process can be found on our methodology page.

Our mission
Our goal is to inspire scientists, entrepreneurs and politicians around the world to investigate where top experts are heading and to give an opportunity for the entire scientific community to discover who the leading experts in specific disciplines, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
