The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the best scholars in the
field of Biology and Biochemistry relies os data
consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for evaluating the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 06-12-2021. Position in the ranking is based on a scholar’s
D-index (Discipline H-index), which includes exclusively
publications and citation data for an examined discipline.

The range of our Biology and Biochemistry research
Research.com’s best researchers ranking is a trustworthy
account of leading scientists from the field of
Biology and Biochemistry, based on a detailed
study of 166,880 scholars determined
from various bibliometric data sources. For the discipline of
Biology and Biochemistry, as many as 23135 researchers were
examined.
What is D-index acceptance threshold for Biology and Biochemistry
The D-index threshold for approving a researcher to be
examined is placed at 40 if
most of their publications are in the field of Biology and Biochemistry. The
inclusion factors for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index,
proportion of the publications made within the specific
field of study in addition to the awards and achievements of the
researchers. The D-index threshold for including best
scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of
researchers assessed for each
scientific field whilst making sure that the top 1% of
best researchers are incorporated into the ranking.
We expect a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s
general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification methods
As our main aim is to guarantee that only
genuine scientists are mentioned in
our ranking we are aware that metrics are never
supposed to be a complete tool to quantify the
output of scientists. This is why
we manually check each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
varied range of credible sources. While it’s not a
factor contributing to a researcher’s position in
Research.com ranking, the amount of documents published in
well-known journals and conference proceedings should form a
reliable secondary indication of their contribution to research in a
selected area of science. Position in the ranking is
determined by each scholar’s D-index
using metrics collected from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most prominent and well-known bibliometric
databases of this type available to the research community. A
detailed definition of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our aim is to motivate scientists,
entrepreneurs and politicians
worldwide to investigate where leading experts are heading
and to offer a way for the whole research community to
find out who the leading experts in specific
disciplines, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
