The 1st edition of Research.com ranking of the best scholars in the
field of Biology and Biochemistry was created using data
combined from a wide range of data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 06-12-2021. Position in the ranking is based on a scientist's
D-index (Discipline H-index), which only includes
papers and citation values for an examined discipline.

The range of our Biology and Biochemistry research
Our best researchers ranking is a credible
account of leading scholars from the discipline of
Biology and Biochemistry, created using a thorough
study of 166,880 scholars determined
from a variety of bibliometric data sources. For the discipline of
Biology and Biochemistry, over 23135 scholars were
examined.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Biology and Biochemistry
The D-index threshold for accepting a scholar to be
examined is placed at 40 if
most of their publications are in the area of Biology and Biochemistry. The
acceptance requirements for scholars to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index,
proportion of the contributions made within the given
discipline in addition to the awards and achievements of the
researchers. The D-index threshold for including top
researchers is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of
researchers estimated for each
scientific field whilst ensuring that the top 1% of
leading scientists are incorporated into the list.
We expect a proximity of 30% or less between a scholar’s
general H-index and their D-index.
Other verification rules
As our leading goal is to make sure that only
genuine scientists are included in
Research.com ranking we believe that numbers are never
meant to be a full tool to evaluate the
contributions of scholars. Because of that
we manually inspect every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
varied range of credible sources. Although it’s not a
factor contributing to a scientist’s position in
our ranking, the amount of papers published in
prominent journals and conference proceedings should form a
credible secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
selected discipline. Position in the ranking is
determined by every researcher’s D-index
using data gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-established bibliometric
databases of this type accessible to the scientific community. A
detailed overview of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our aim is to motivate researchers,
companies and administrative bodies
around the world to investigate where top experts are heading
and to offer an opportunity for the whole research community to
find out who the leading experts in specific
disciplines, in different countries, or even within research
institutions are.
