A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers papers and citation metrics pertinent to the examined discipline—in this case, Plant Science and Agronomy. This methodology emphasizes discipline-specific research impact, ensuring the ranking accurately reflects expertise within the targeted field.
Scope and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking rigorously assessed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles extracted from diverse bibliometric data sources across all research fields, narrowing the focus to 8 scientists specializing in Plant Science and Agronomy. To qualify, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be centered on Plant Science and Agronomy. In addition to bibliometric indicators, awards and notable achievements within the discipline were considered to enrich the evaluation.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set as increments of 10, depending on the estimated population of scholars within each discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are comprehensively included.
