A scientist’s position within this ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), which is a refined metric that accounts exclusively for publications and citations pertinent to the examined discipline—in this case, Medicine. This ensures that the evaluation reflects domain-specific scholarly impact rather than general research output.
Scope and Criteria of the Ranking
The ranking was constructed by examining a total of 188,153 scientist profiles identified across a variety of bibliometric data sources covering all academic disciplines. Within the scope of Medicine, 24 scientists were carefully evaluated for inclusion. To qualify for this ranking, a researcher must have achieved a minimum D-index of 70, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated in the field of Medicine.
In addition to bibliometric performance, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within Medicine were also factored into the qualification process. The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of active scholars in each discipline, thus ensuring inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in the field.
To maintain specificity and relevance, candidates considered must display a proximity of no more than 30% difference between their overall general H-index and their Medicine-specific D-index. This helps ensure that the ranking reflects true excellence within the discipline rather than interdisciplinary citation effects.
Verification and Validation Practices
The researchers responsible for this ranking recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute tool for evaluating scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles were subject to meticulous manual verification and cross-correlation against publications found in numerous trustworthy academic sources.
Although not a direct factor influencing a researcher’s ranking position, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings represents a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution and standing within their area of expertise. The primary position in the ranking is exclusively determined by each researcher's D-index, as computed using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef.
